The Position

CSIRO’s Land & Water is seeking to appoint a Geographical Information System (GIS) and Data Analyst.

You as the successful candidate will update model data, run CSIRO’s Transport Network Strategic Investment Tool (TraNSIT) and synthesise the outputs for reporting. In this job you will increase the capacity of the project team to apply TraNSIT for various client projects and to further improve the tool.

Your duties/responsibilities will include:

  • Setting up and running TraNSIT for various client applications.
  • Synthesis TraNSIT outputs into spatial maps, tables and other diagrams for clients.
  • Synthesize input data (e.g. commodity data, supply chains, transport network parameters) gathered from stakeholders, and consolidate into TraNSIT. Data will be gathered for existing commodities in TraNSIT as well as new commodities (e.g. minerals, fuels).

Salary:          $80K - $91K plus up to 15.4% superannuation

To be successful you will need:

  • Bachelor degree in a scientific or engineering discipline such as Computer Science, Mathematics and at least 12 months of working experience in a relevant field
  • Expertise in spatial data analysis and mapping using ArcGIS, particularly using network analysis in the context of transport and land use.
  • Demonstrated experience in analysing large data sets from a variety of stakeholders, and documenting their use.
  • Demonstrated experience with Python, arcPy and other programming languages (including open source) to produce spatial models.
