Investment Principal - Main Sequence

The Opportunity

  • Are you a passionate entrepreneur and investment expert in Deep Tech?
  • Do you want to create global businesses that solve real world challenges?
  • Are you looking for a truly flexible workplace?

Main Sequence is a subsidiary of CSIRO established to manage the CSIRO Innovation Fund.  As an Investment Principal, you will source, research, support and lead investments in “deep tech” early stage companies.

This is a great opportunity for an amazing venture builder who understands how venture capital works and has a passion for creating global businesses from Australian R&D.

Recruitment is being managed by CSIRO, however the successful candidate will be engaged by Main Sequence via an immediate secondment from CSIRO to Main Sequence.

Your duties will include:

  • Discover, build, and close new deals for Main Sequence. This includes attending pitches with founders, creating deal review documentation, assessing market/business opportunities, lead investment proposals and support team members on new deals.
  • Actively contribute to the Australian entrepreneurial and start-up community through professional networking and communicating with LP’s.
  • Build, implement, and enhance our portfolio support systems by mobilising our professional networks, and recognising, capturing, and sharing best practices to solve common challenges among portfolio companies. These include recruiting talent and building high-performance organisations; effective sales and marketing strategies and tactics; creating and sustaining user engagement; building strategic relationships with partners; effective public relations and media engagement; ESG (environmental, social and governance considerations) and diversity and inclusion.
  • Work closely with the broader Main Sequence team to understand what we do, how we work, and what we could do better.
  • Communicate openly, effectively, and respectfully with all staff, clients, and suppliers in the interests of good business practice, collaboration and enhancement of both CSIRO and Main Sequence’s reputations.
