CSIRO's Information and Technology (IM&T) division is embarking on an ambitious portfolio of work designed to support the organisations Science Digital Transformation strategy. Underpinning the portfolio is a desire for staff to have seamless, secure access to tools, systems and processes that back the delivery of world class science. Additionally, IM&T has also launched their Cyber Security Uplift Program to ensure that CSIRO business practices and technology are aligned to Essential 8 maturity. The program will also enable powerful new services and tools to the Cyber Security Services teams.

The Cyber Security Services (CSS) teams operate within the Information Management & Technology (IMT) business unit focusing on ongoing security operations, cyber resilience, and data protection.

IMT is seeking an efficient and analytical individual to lead and manage the Cyber Security Operations team focusing on incident response, monitoring, and analytics.

Your duties will include:

  • Undertake security event and incident response activities and coordinate the resources of the Cyber Security Ops team as well as undertake staff performance management and career development.
  • Identify and analyse security issues across multiple environments, assessing if/how they will affect the network and operating environment and prepare these for handover to the CISO, participating in end-to-end remediation and risk management.
  • Respond to IT Security Incidents, performing work across multiple environments as required, in accordance with policy and procedure, taking ownership of accountability for response to those incidents allocated to the team.
  • Lead the development of security operational monitoring capabilities and develop and maintain security related processes relating to the successful operation of the Cyber Security Ops team.
  • Create and distribute technical cybersecurity related reports to a wide range of internal and customer stakeholders
  • Communicate openly, effectively, and respectfully with all staff, clients and suppliers in the interests of good business practice, collaboration, and enhancement of CSIRO’s reputation.

Salary: AU$117,917 to $138,176pa + up to 15.4% superannuation

To be considered you will need:

Essential:

  • Formal tertiary qualifications in one or more of the following: Computer Science, Engineering or related technical field. In lieu of this, a minimum of ten (10) years’ experience working in an ICT environment may be substituted.
  • At least two (2) years managing a cyber security team in an operational or assurance capacity or at least five (5) years managing an IT team.
  • Demonstrated experience with leading and application of monitoring, analysis, and management of security events and incidents using multiple sources and industry tools within a complex environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and communicate widely both internally and externally and provide advice and recommendations to managers and staff.
  • Strong organisational, mental resilience, analytical and problem-solving skills with demonstrated ability to manage competing complex demands; establish or renegotiate priorities; organise or re-assign tasks and meet deadlines.

Desirable:

  • A solid understanding of the wider industry security environment and experience working with various cyber security technologies.
  • Cyber Security related certifications (e.g. CISM, CISSP, SABSA)
  • Experience with the application or understanding of contemporary programming and/or scripting languages.
  • Experience with the application or understanding of complex network technologies.
  • Demonstrated experience working with Cyber Security industry tools including but not limited to Splunk, Carbon Black and Cylance.
