Fisheries and Oceans Officer (Specialist) CanberraExecutive Level 1 The Fisheries and Oceans Officer (Specialist) leads Pacific Division’s policy and programming on Pacific fisheries, oceans and related matters, and DFAT’s broader fisheries objectives through the fisheries part of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Strategy. The Fisheries and Oceans Officer (Specialist) will liaise closely with other areas of DFAT in Australia and overseas, with officials from a broad range of countries, and with relevant Australian and Pacific agencies.
A strong background knowledge or experience in fisheries and oceans issues (with fisheries being the more important) is essential. Qualifications in this area would be desirable. A significant amount of travel is required. Candidates must be Australian citizens to be eligible for engagement and the successful candidate will undergo a comprehensive security assessment. Employment in the department is dependent on gaining a valid security clearance. Loss of a security clearance at any time will lead to termination of employment. DFAT employees are expected to adhere to the APS values and employment principles in terms of performance and standards of behaviour. Candidate’s attention is drawn to the department’s policy on recruitment or promotion to specialist positions. This position is categorised as “specialist”. Staff recruited to this position will be required to remain in their area of specialisation for the duration of their employment with the department, unless they are successful in a subsequent merit-based selection process. |
