The Role
The Discipline Leader (DL) of the Soldier Autonomy (SA) Team, under limited guidance, will provide leadership and planning of the research direction of a small team, to meet the intent of the Integrated Soldier Technologies (IST) Science and Technology Capability (STC). The successful candidate will support the Group Leader IST and the leadership team in the development and implementation of high-level IST goals.

The Discipline Leader will be responsible for the supervision and mentoring of staff within SA, facilitate appropriate direction for the team through clear communication. As a leader, the DL will develop and maintain collaborative partnerships at a domestic and international level.

The Discipline Leader will be responsible for leading the development of long-term research goals and guide their implementation, and for the coordination and development of robotic and autonomous technology systems to enhance the protection of dismounted soldiers.

About our Team
Land Division leads the impetus for innovation within Australian land force operations by providing science and technology advice about equipment, personnel and processes utilised by the land force. The Integrated Soldier Technologies (IST) S&T Capability (STC) within Land Division (LD) in Melbourne provides Science & Technology support to Australian Defence personnel and to personnel from allied national security agencies and organisations. This support is designed to provide dismounted combatants with integrated protective measures, to enable freedom of action to undertake operations in all environments.

The IST STC applies evidence-based problem solving and undertakes enabling Research and Development (R&D) to provide solutions addressing the provision of functional protection for dismounted personnel. Areas of expertise include ballistics and blast mechanics, electromagnetic signature management development, assessment and modelling, textile treatments and properties, functional materials, robotic autonomous systems and augmented reality.
