The Federal Government has launched a $24 million COVID vaccine advertising campaign.

The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) has approved a COVID-19 vaccine from Pfizer, which will now be rolled out to aged care and disability residents and staff. Quarantine and border workers and those in frontline healthcare roles are next in line.

However, the Federal Government hopes all Australians will be vaccinated by October, and is using TV, radio, print, social and digital media to achieve that goal.

“The campaign will keep Australians fully informed and up to date about the safety and effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccines as they become available, including when, how and where to get the jab,” Health Minister Greg Hunt says.

“The information in this campaign, based on expert and independent medical advice, will help answer the questions people may have.”

The ads feature the head of the TGA, Adjunct Professor John Skerritt, former deputy chief medical officer Nick Coatsworth and Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer Alison McMillan.

Experts say the success of the campaign may depend on messages being delivered in a range of languages.

Mr Hunt says special committees have been created to represent Indigenous Australians, multicultural communities and people with a disability so that communications are appropriate.
