The Trade Minister will spend his time at the World Economic Forum (WEF) trying to bring trade and investment to our shores.

That is the mission of Australia’s representatives at the hyper-elite gathering, with both Trade Minister Andrew Robb and Prime Minister Tony Abbott looking to woo the heads of the biggest companies and largest economies on the planet.

Australia will host the G20 summit later this year, and so the two will use the WEF gathering to start spruiking it as well.

Mr Robb says he will use his participation at the WEF to promote Australia's G20 trade and investment agenda at every opportunity, raising the topic consistently with counterparts and business leaders.

“In many parts of the world I have strongly detected disillusionment with the interventionist policies post the global financial crisis and a renewed appetite to pursue trade and investment as a sustainable driver of growth and jobs,” Mr Robb said in a written statement this week.

Mr Robb says he will have bilateral meetings with economic authorities from the United States, European Union, Indonesia, Japan, India and Hong Kong while in Switzerland this week.

“My attendance at the WEF will also provide a valuable opportunity to meet with senior business leaders from the international investment and trade community, and to promote Australia's many strengths as an attractive investment destination,” Mr Robb said.

Prime Minister Tony Abbott has taken essentially the same agenda to the WEF, plugging Australia’s new business-friendly attitude and the general sentiment that international funds would be more than welcome.
