ABC Regional provides a national voice for the one third of Australians who live outside our capital cities. At a time when the regional presence of commercial media is shrinking, the ABC’s role is more important than ever. ABC Regional’s more than 400 staff prepare and present almost 1,000 hours of live local programming every week, while linking the stories, people and conversations of regional communities to local, national and international audiences through broadcast, online and mobile services.

About the Role

ABC Regional is looking for a talented reporter to join our dedicated local team.  The role may involve some shift and weekend work. 

You'll work across digital/social, television and radio and produce high quality feature content for local and national audiences.

  • Explore and investigate issues, people and places that are important to the audience, and tell those stories to a national audience through digital and video storytelling
  • Facilitate and moderate audience driven content initiatives, including social newsgathering, to enhance and create original stories utilising User Generated Content.
  • Use pictures to present stories from regional Australia to a national audience

About You

We are looking for a highly motivated content maker with the ability to identify and produce high-quality and original feature stories.

  • Proven experience in writing original and compelling digital articles
  • Video production experience, including operation of camera and editing equipment in a fast-turnaround environment
  • Proficient social media user, including the ability to source and distribute User Generated Content on social media platforms
  • A self-starter, able to work effectively in a small team
  • Can exercise sound editorial judgement, making immediate and strong decisions under pressure
