The duties of the role:

  • The Finance Officer is accountable under limited direction to undertake complex finance related work that is guided by legislation, policies, procedures, standards, methodologies and precedents.
  • The position will perform various activities within one or more of the core finance functions of the Finance and Corporate Service Division, that may include, financial accounting, management accounting, finance business partnering, financial analytics and scheme finance.
  • The position is a team membership position that may be required to perform work that involves team leadership with supervision or management responsibilities requiring the setting of priorities, managing workflows and outcomes of a finance team.
  • The position has reasonable autonomy and accountability to exercise both initiative and judgment to interpret relevant finance legislation, policy and standards in the application of practices and procedures to achieve a variety of finance outcomes.
  • You will coordinate and assume responsibility to provide detailed advice and operational support in relation to complex finance issues and problems.
  • Coordinate and assist in the strategic planning, program and project management and policy development that support the organisations objectives
  • The Finance Officer will have a considerable level of internal stakeholder contact in relation to complex, difficult or sensitive finance issues. It will be required to liaise with a range of internal and external stakeholders in a representational role on behalf of the branch and the division.

What you will bring to the role

  • Tertiary level qualifications in Accounting, Finance or equivalent academic specialisation is required
  • Experience in Financial management is essential
  • Must be a member of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand, CPA or other equivalent
  • Financial experience within the public sector his highly desirable
  • A strong understanding, or ability to quickly develop an understanding, of government processes
  • Exceptional analytical and written communication skills
  • A high degree of initiative, strong organisational skills and the capability to manage effectively in a fast-paced working environment
  • Flexibility and resilience and embrace the challenges of working in a complex and changing environment.

Must be an Australian or New Zealand Citizen with eligibility to clear a National Police Check
