Agricultural Soil Scientist

The Position

CSIRO Agriculture and Food is seeking to appoint a research scientist in the science of estimating soil functional dynamics in space and time. Join a team of CSIRO Scientists within the 'Sustaining Agricultural Soil and Landscapes' Program as well as with other groups within CSIRO.

As the successful candidate you will have a sound understanding of Australian soils, their state, their function, and the appropriate management needed to increase the productivity and sustainability of Australian agriculture. You will use this knowledge to assist in the development of novel approaches to the management of soil physical structure, soil water, and the interaction between soil and plants.

Your duties/responsibilities will include:

  • Conduct novel and innovative scientific research with practical application.
  • Produce high quality scientific papers suitable for publication in quality journals and for presentation at national and international conferences. 

Location:      Canberra ACT
Salary:          $95K - $103K plus up to 15.4% superannuation
Tenure:         Indefinite

To be successful you will need:

  1. Demonstrated research expertise in soil science with specialisation in areas such as: the estimation of soil change and soil functions, model-data assimilation, soil data integration, soil-plant process modelling.
  2. Practical knowledge of the condition and function of soils in the context of existing or developing knowledge of Australian soils and land management history.
  3. Demonstrated experience in contributing to research projects, liaising with clients to determine their needs, and preparing research proposals that are supported.
  4. A record of science innovation and creativity
