Curatorial Assistant, Australian National Wildlife Collection

The position

The role of Research Projects staff in CSIRO is to collaborate in scientific activities with other research staff usually by assisting with detailed planning, undertaking or assisting with experimental and observational work, and in carrying out the more practical aspects of the work. 

In the context of the current position, this will apply to curation and management of a major natural history collection and its associated metadata, the duties of which will include a dversity of routine collection care tasks such as packing and sorting of specimens for loans; collection inventory; registration labelling and housing of specimens; entry of metadata, ongoing curation of the different kinds of specimens held in ANWC (whole animals in alcohol, dried skins, skeletons, nests, eggs); preparation of specimens; field work for specimen collection; responding to collection queries; and scanning and digital imaging.

Salary:               $61K- $78K plus up to 15.4% superannuation

To be successful you will need:

  • A relevant Bachelor’s degree or higher qualification, or equivalent experience in natural sciences or museum curation methodologies.
  • Sound basic knowledge of Australian natural history including basic taxonomic and species identification skills across terrestrial vertebrates.
  • The ability and willingness to contribute novel ideas and approaches in support of scientific investigations.
  • A Current driver’s license.
