The Position
We are offering an outstanding opportunity for an experienced Experimental Scientist to join the Bioassay Research and Development (Bioassay R&D) team at the Australian Animal Health Laboratory (AAHL). This world-leading team is responsible for producing novel assays and bioreagents for the detection of pathogens, and for maintaining reagents that are used in approved diagnostic tests for infectious diseases. Bioassay R&D outputs facilitate AAHL’s diagnostic and surveillance programs in Australia and abroad; enable research into emergency animal diseases (EAD); and have a view towards commercialisation. These broad activities fulfil diagnostic and surveillance roles that inform Australia’s response to biological threats to animal health and associated industries. This important role forms an integral part of the Diagnosis, Surveillance and Response program’s mandate.
Reporting directly to the Team Leader, you will be part of a small team working closely together across a broad remit that covers the use of molecular, protein and antibody systems to develop assays suitable for diagnosis of bacterial and viral pathogens. Primarily you will support our ongoing diagnostic assay and reagent development efforts. You will also will work closely with individual team members where cross-training is required, or where member’s skills are complementary to the task being undertaken.
NOTE: To be appointable to this role you must be able to meet AAHL’s Microbiological Security and Security Clearance requirements
