The Position:
Postdoctoral Fellows are appointed for up to three years and will work closely with a leading Research Scientist or Engineer in their respective field. They carry out innovative, impactful research of strategic importance to CSIRO with the possibility of novel and important scientific outcomes. They present the findings in appropriate publications and at conferences.
CSIRO Manufacturing is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow to join the 4D cell culture group led by CSIRO Science Leader Prof Sally McArthur. The group is part of the Cell Biology Theme within the Biomedical Manufacturing Program, and the project will be undertaken in collaboration with optical imaging and spectroscopy researchers at Swinburne University of Technology.
This project will address the fundamental scientific and technical challenges associated with imaging 3D cell culture systems in real-time to enable the monitoring of cell viability, cell-cell signalling, scaffold/matrix organisation and the influence of biological and external stimuli (i.e. drugs) on engineered tissues. In order to address these fundamental questions the project will explore the application of existing and emerging imaging techniques in a multi-modal platform for monitoring 3D tissues and cell cultures. Current modalities targeted for inclusion are fluorescence lifetime imaging (FLIM), non-linear optical microscopies like optical coherence spectroscopy (OCT) and coherence anti-Stokes Raman spectroscopy (CARS). Additionally the project will explore multiphoton imaging and light sheet microscopy.
Your duties will include:
Location: CSIRO Manufacturing, Clayton, Victoria and Swinburne University of Technology, Hawthorn, Victoria
Salary: $80k to $91k plus up to 15.4% superannuation
