The Position

CSIRO’s Business and Infrastructure Services (CBIS) is looking to appoint a Logistics and Stores Officer for a specified term of 12 months.

CSIRO Business and Infrastructure Services is charged with managing the provision, maintenance and operation of all CSIRO's scientific and research facilities.

As the successful applicant you will work closely with facilities staff from CBIS to provide a range of support activities including receipt and dispatch services, inventory control, simple procurement, internal logistics, dangerous goods handling/dispatch and other agreed services to meet CSIRO operational requirements.

You will have demonstrated experience in the provision of logistical and administrative support in a complex environment and with working in a team environment.

Please note: Due to the nature of the duties required in this role, applicants must possess:

  • An appropriate current License/authority for the operation of pallet and forklifts;
  • A current, unencumbered motor vehicle driver’s license.
  • A truck licence, light rigid or greater, would be advantageous but not essential.

Your duties/responsibilities will include:

  1. Provide a high quality stores and logistics service and support to all CSIRO staff, clients and business partners at all CSIRO sites
  2. Ensure the efficient, timely and accurate receipt and dispatch of all material goods through the store, to and from the site(s) including the coordination of bulky goods direct to the customer or remote destination.
  3. Ensure mail and freight items are recorded/received/held/dispatched as necessary and specialist packaging issues such as dangerous goods, frozen or cold samples, critical timeframes, specialist freight services etc are understood,  considered and implemented in consultation with the customers;
  4. Ensure appropriate inventory control in the store and liaise with customers for future needs and change requirements with stock held;
  5. Facilitate the efficient procurement of specified goods and services including gases and ensure that this is achieved in accordance with CSIRO Policies;
  6. Coordinate the internal dispatch and pick-up of goods in-line with agreed terms and available resourcing across the site(s);
  7. Provide for fork/pallet lift requirements relating to agreed receivables or dispatched goods;
  8. Provide administrative support in respect to the vehicle fleet, and being the site fleet contact ensuring that inspection, cleaning, repairs and servicing are undertaken by responsible parties as required. Also may include other fleet duties as directed;
  9. As part of the CBIS facility support team, coordinate and/or assist with the delivery of logistic and site services such as waste management and other services as may be necessary from time to time;
  10. Develop and maintain stores operating procedures for safe efficient operation.
  11. Housekeeping and management of packaging waste

Salary:          $46K - $59K plus up to 15.4% superannuation

To be successful you will need:

  1. Basic secondary school education and/or relevant work experience. Possession of appropriate current License/authority for the operation of pallet and forklifts in addition to an unencumbered motor vehicle driver’s licence.
  2. Demonstrated skills and experience in the planning and operation of a stores and logistics service including inventory control and stocktake;
  3. Sound knowledge of purchasing policy and procedures, procurement systems and methods of obtaining quotations and certifying payments;
  4. Demonstrated keyboard and data entry skills and experience in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel & Outlook) and routine administration;
  5. Ability to take initiative, actively contribute and work as a team member and share relevant and useful information with the broader CBIS team;
  6. A strong customer service focus and ability to interact courteously and efficiently with customers, building relationships and keeping them informed on the delivery of logistic services; and
  7. A proven ability to plan, coordinate and prioritise activities and work independently to achieve service outcomes.
