The Position:
Postdoctoral Fellows are appointed for up to three years or part time equivalent and will work closely with a leading Research Scientist or Engineer in their respective field. They carry out innovative, impactful research of strategic importance to CSIRO with the possibility of novel and important scientific outcomes. They present the findings in appropriate publications and at conferences.
The successful applicant will join a team of international leaders in inverse modelling and atmospheric observation. They will utilize information contained in atmospheric methane concentrations for Australia from several observational platforms to estimate methane emissions at the regional scale (domains of up to hundreds of kilometres) for uncertain sectors such as fugitive emissions from unconventional gas (coal seam gas and fracking), wetlands, waste-water treatment and reticulated gas. This will involve using an atmospheric transport model and probabilistic inference.
The role sits within the Atmospheric Composition and Chemistry Group in CSIRO’s Climate Science Centre. The successful candidate will be someone who wants to work in a team, has keen interest in climate science and a strong drive to deliver science in support of the Paris Climate Agreement.
