The Position
CSIRO’s Australian National Insect Collection (ANIC) is seeking to appoint a technician to carry out general curatorial and research assistant duties.
As the successful candidate you will work collaboratively with colleagues to reach certain project objectives. You will work on improved solutions trying creative ways to deal with routine problems and opportunities.

Your duties will include

  • General curatorial duties in the Australian insect collection including:  preparation and preservation of dry, wet and slide mounted specimens; organising and packing loans; general sorting of specimens; data entry; imaging of specimens using various techniques and equipment; other curatorial and HSE duties as required.
  • Communicate effectively and respectfully with all staff, clients and suppliers in the interests of good business practice, collaboration and enhancement of CSIRO’s reputation.
  • Work as part of an often regionally dispersed team, to carry out administrative tasks and provide support under the direction of senior administrative staff.

Location: Canberra ACT
Salary: AU$46k - AU$60k plus up to 15.4% superannuation

To be successful you will need

  • A relevant Certificate or relevant work experience.
  • General knowledge of and the ability to work with and handle insects, including fragile collection specimens.
  • Ability and willingness to perform repetitive tasks requiring accuracy and close attention to detail.
  • Sound computer skills including the capability of record taking and use of databasing software.
