Electronics Engineer

You as the successful applicant will have the opportunity to deliver outcomes which provide new understandings of the environment and which contribute to the development, management and protection of Australia’s marine and atmospheric resources. This unique and rewarding position allows the successful engineer to work hand in hand with researchers and clients to take projects from concept to delivery with close involvement in every step of the journey.

Your duties will include

  • Liaising with clients to determine their system requirements and take personal responsibility for their satisfaction, as well as the prompt correction and communication of problems in a constructive manner
  • Developing original techniques, processes, equipment or software, especially when encountering new problems where methods are not defined and initiative is required
  • Designing and building new electronics and instrumentation systems to deliver next generation solutions for marine science
  • Developing embedded firmware and application software for the operation and control of instruments 
  • Participating in research voyages to meet science objectives through the commissioning, operation, maintenance and repair of instrumentation

Location: Hobart, TAS
Salary: AU$82k - AU$93k plus up to 15.4% superannuation
Tenure: Specified term until 31st March 2021

To be successful you will need

  • Extensive knowledge of electronics and instrumentation
  • Demonstrated experience in the board level design of electronic systems using recognized industry standard CAD packages (Altium Designer or similar)
  • Previous experience producing robust embedded firmware for microcontrollers
  • Background in coding software applications using higher level languages for control, data acquisition and data analysis
  • To be willing and able to travel and undertake fieldwork
  • To undertake and pass a Seagoing Medical to demonstrate you have no underlying medical conditions which would pose a risk to your wellbeing for deployment at sea.

Pre-Requisite/Eligibility

A relevant Bachelors Degree and/or equivalent experience in Electrical Engineering.
