Research Assistant (8 Casual Positions)

CSIRO Agriculture and Food is currently offering casual work opportunities at our Cotton Breeding Group for the coming cotton harvest. You will be part of a team that develops new cotton varieties for the Australian cotton industry. As a research assistant you will assist with general field and greenhouse operations and maintenance, sampling experiments, processing samples and harvesting cotton experiments at Myall Vale (Narrabri), NSW and Dalby, QLD.

Your duties will include

  • Assisting with planting, weeding and maintenance of field and greenhouse experiments.
  • Assisting with hand and machine harvest of experiments at the Australian Cotton Research Institute and other district sites.
  • Ginning cotton samples and assisting with fibre quality testing.
  • Working as part of a multi-disciplinary research team to carry out tasks in support of scientific research.

Location: Myall Vale (Narrabri), NSW & Dalby, QLD
Salary: AU$24.84 per hour plus 25% casual loading

To be successful you will need

  • A current class C drivers licence.
  • The ability to lift, bend, walk and undertake repetitive tasks while adhering to safe work practices in a team environment.
  • The ability to undertake manual handling and operate equipment in accordance with Health and Safety Procedures.
  • The capability to provide high attention to detail while completing set tasks.
  • The ability and willingness to work in harsh and adverse conditions while maintaining health and safety requirements.
  • The capability to carry out tasks under the direction of scientific researchers, and work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary, regionally dispersed research team.
