CSIRO Futures’ is CSIRO’s strategic advisory arm and a trusted advisor to external private and public sector entities. We sit at the interface between science and industry, identifying key trends, emerging technologies and issues affecting business.

We draw on CSIRO’s deep R&D capability to help clients translate science into strategy and plan for an uncertain future, be it through high profile public thought leadership reports or commercial-in-confidence technology strategy engagements. Our expertise extends across sectors that include Energy, Health, Oil & Gas, Food & Agribusiness, and Manufacturing, where we help senior decision makers develop evidence-based strategies to address major opportunities and challenges across the supply chain.

The position

The Research Consultant will spend about 50% to 70% of their time supporting the provision of corporate innovation services to external clients. Working with senior team members, the Research Consultant defines innovation problems for clients, conducts technology scanning activities, writes reports, and organises and runs national open innovation contests and accelerators. Specifically you will:

  • Conduct market and technology analysis via proprietary databases and primary research including expert interviews.
  • Create logically-structured insights from large amounts of quantitative and qualitative data gathered from many sources and develop succinct reports.
  • Communicate complex business and/or technical concepts to clients and stakeholders
  • Plan and coordinate meetings and workshops around Australia.
  • Manage subcontractor and university communications and contracting relationships.
  • Develop a working knowledge of CSIRO’s science and technology domains / expertise.

Salary: $83K to $94K plus up to 15.4% Superannuation

Essential Criteria:
Under CSIRO policy only those who meet all essential criteria can be appointed.

  • Undergraduate qualifications in business, finance, economics, science, engineering discipline or a related field that includes a significant analytical component.
  • Experience working in an internal or externally facing role aligned with professional activities such as strategic or technical consulting, market research, or policy development.
  • Proven project management capabilities, including the ability to manage and prioritise conflicting tasks.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyse multiple sources of data, derive robust strategic insights, and clearly communicate key insights in written and graphical form.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral communication and presentation skills.
  • Fluency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
