The Position
CSIRO Agriculture and Food is seeking to appoint a Research Assistant to work in the Biological Services team based at Black Mountain Laboratories in Acton, ACT.
You will work in the Potting Shed and utilise your skills to provide support to the leading agricultural scientists in the country. You will be expected to prepare materials for green house operation by undertaking various filling, transport, pest spraying and sterilisation tasks. In this role, you will work closely with other technical and scientific staff and has impact across a range of projects researching plant growth, disease and crop yield.

The successful applicant must have a current C class Australian driver licence (manuals) or the ability to obtain one. 
This is a Full-Time role, however Part-Time requests from suitable applicants may be considered.

Your duties will include

•    Preparing different types of soil for use in research experiments.
•    Assisting in the maintenance of CSIRO glasshouses and surrounding grounds.
•    Conducting regular pest control operations by identifying and treating common glasshouse pests.
•    Delivering soil and pots to relevant laboratories or glasshouses.
•    Operating tractors, ATVs and other light agricultural machinery (no special license required).

Salary:          AU$47K - AU$61K plus up to 15.4% superannuation

To be successful you will need
  • Relevant trade certificate/diploma or relevant work experience
  • Ability to work independently or in a small team, maintain a high standard of work unsupervised, and demonstrate initiative.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office applications.
  • Awareness of and willingness to adhere to safety procedures.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Basic level of physical fitness required to perform manual tasks and work outdoors.
