Supercomputing Application Specialist for Radio Astronomy
As the Supercomputing Application Specialist with CSIRO’s Space and Astronomy business unit (S&A), you will undertake R&D activities to optimise the software pipelines and leverage the latest HPC technology capabilities of the new Pawsey Supercomputing System, Setonix. Once fully operational, Setonix will deliver up to 50 Petaflops of raw compute power and bring new technology and architecture capable to scale up to Exascale (1000+ Petaflops) Computing systems.
In this jointly funded S&A and Pawsey role, you will contribute to building capability to support the big data challenges of the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) in Australia, You will prepare the Australian SKA Pathfinder (ASKAP) software pipelines for Exascale, making them run more efficiently, greatly benefitting the overall science output. ASKAP is CSIRO’s new-technology radio telescope, a precursor for the SKA, the most ambitious and challenging radio telescope project in the world.

Salary: AU$100k - AU$108k pa (pro-rata for part-time) plus up to 15.4% superannuation
