HSE Advisor - Canberra Deep Space Communication Complex (Part-time)

The Canberra Deep Space Communication Complex (CDSCC) supports ground-based spacecraft telecommunications as part of the international National Aeronautic Space Administration (NASA) Deep Space Network (DSN), under contractual arrangements between the NASA and Commonwealth Scientific Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO).

As the HSE Advisor for the CDSCC, you will work as part of CSIRO’s Space & Astronomy HSE team to continuously improve the site’s preventative safety, compliance and HSE system management.  Working with the broader CSIRO HSE function, you will deliver strategic HSE and wellbeing programs with a business unit perspective, to promote and engage CSIRO’s HSE management system.  You will focus on site-specific requirements and support the CDSCC team, providing tailored technical and specialist advice and support.

In this role you will:

  • Support the implementation of CSIRO’s HSE plan with a focus on organisational consistency.
  • Contribute to HSE projects and influence continual HSE improvement.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships and educate staff through knowledge sharing.
  • Contribute to multiple teams, manage multiple priorities, and support various business and site needs.
  • Develop and review policies, procedures, systems and make recommendations to guide management decisions.
  • Work collaboratively, establishing networks and strong relationships with clients and the HSE team.
  • Develop a deep understanding of the HSE risk profile and support the implementation of HSE improvement initiatives.
  • Actively support the HSE culture change program and lead by example.

Salary:   AU$86,379 - AU$112,074 pa (pro-rata for part-time) + up to 15.4% superannuation
Tenure:   Indefinite, part-time (0.6 FTE) or job-share (if circumstances permit)

To be considered you will need:

  • A tertiary degree in a related discipline such as Science, HSE, Risk Management, or similar, with relevant experience in HSE management demonstrated within large or complex organisations.  
  • The ability to determine stakeholder priorities, set goals and targets, and implement strategies to improve HSE. 
  • The ability to influence leaders and build trusting relationships to drive positive organisational change and HSE culture.
  • The ability to embrace ambiguity and positively persist towards an end goal.
  • High-level communication and interpersonal skills.  
  • Exposure to HSE hazard management and improvement programs, and the ability to interpret legislation and regulatory standards.

Eligibility

  • The successful candidate will be required to obtain and provide a National Police Clearance or equivalent.
  • As this site works directly with NASA and JPL, the successful applicant will be required to obtain an Export Administration Regulations (EAR) clearance/approval, to perform the inherent requirements of the position.
