The ‘Energy Technologies Program’ is one of three programs within CSIRO’s Energy business unit, with a vision to provide the technology, analysis and insight that reduces the costs and accelerates reliable transition towards net zero emissions.

We are seeking a Research Scientist to join the Energy Technologies Program to work on a range of applied research projects. Your focus will be electrochemical energy systems for the production of renewable fuels such as hydrogen, ammonia and low emissions energy applications. As a key member of the wider team, you will also have responsibilities in external engagement and project development activities. Part of your focus will also be to develop your own research domain to augment and grow CSIRO’s capabilities in the priority areas.

Your duties will include:

• With limited direction, undertaking scientific or engineering research requiring originality, creativity and innovation and the application of scientific or engineering knowledge, expertise and skills in a limited area.
• Demonstrating basic ability in research planning & execution and the capacity to think in terms of fundamentals and create hypotheses. 
• Developing, designing and delivering client-focussed research projects or components of research initiatives.
• Working as part of the wider research group on key experimental or modelling aspects of research projects, and contributing to the production of client reports and scientific papers. 
• Engaging externally to ensure that research priorities are aligned with industrial needs.
• Anticipating industry and/or community needs and market direction through client liaison/networking and identifying & adapting quickly to changes.

Salary: AU$102K to AU$111K pa + up to 15.4% superannuation

To be considered you will need:

• A PhD in Electrochemistry or Materials Science with a strong background in electrochemistry and fuel cells/electrolysers, backed with previous experience and publication record in the relevant field.
• Sound working knowledge of electrochemical instrumentation/diagnostics, such as electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, current-voltage characterisation as applied to high and low-temperature fuel cells and electrolysers. 
• Experience with synthesis and characterisation of functional electrocatalysts for low and high temperature electrochemical systems.
• Growing reputation, network and experience in relevant fields associated with chemical processing and energy technologies.
• A track record of delivering client-focussed research projects, with demonstrated research project management skills.

Eligibility
