Our Biomedical Manufacturing Research Program works with biomedical companies to deliver new medical treatments and technologies that benefit millions of people in Australia and overseas, helping them live longer, healthier, and more productive lives.

The Protein Purification Technician will report to the Team Leader for Protein Production?and engage with a wide group of clients, including academic institutions, SMEs, and large biotech. Under the guidance of senior scientists, the successful appointee will assist in project planning and developing purification schemes, carry out purifications and contribute to client reports and to Tech Transfer processes with the GMP team.

Your duties will include:

  • Designing and performing routine experiments and laboratory analyses, under limited supervision.
  • Designing new processes or apparatus by adapting existing techniques and components to meet special circumstances or undertaking modifications to methods requiring some innovation.
  • Understanding the requirements of the clients and setting expectations with the client through clear communication to ensure client satisfaction.
  • Carrying out protein purification research, with input from other scientists, including developing novel processes and applying established processes including affinity, ion exchange, size exclusion and other chromatography methods.
  • Conducting protein analysis including spectrophotometric methods, enzyme assays, SDS-PAGE, ELISA, SEC etc.
  • Preparing draft reports and presenting results through written and oral communications with clients and team.

Salary: AU$66k - AU$84k plus up to 15.4% superannuation

To be considered you will need:

  • Relevant bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant work experience Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry or related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in protein purification using chromatographic methods (affinity, ion exchange, size exclusion and other methods)
  • Ability to manage competing priorities whilst meeting tight project time frames and organisational objectives
  • Good oral and written communication with a track record of working collaboratively within a team environment to achieve project milestones.
