The Research Funding and Grants Manager provides administrative and management services to support the effective provision of research and development activities for CSIRO’s Indigenous Science and Engagement Program. The role will be responsible for establishing relationships with funding agencies and government to build partnerships to develop an internal research grants program that exemplifies co-design, Indigenous leadership, community ownership and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander scientists.

Your duties will include:

  • Act as a trusted advisor, understanding the client’s Business Unit (BU) and seeking information about the real underlying needs of Indigenous people and communities, and identify and adapt quickly to changes in clients’ needs and market changes.
  • Within broad guidelines negotiate and support the team to secure external funds, have sound understanding of Business Unit goals and activities, be a member of and provide strategic advice to the management team, and establish and maintain networks beneficial to the achievement of the Indigenous Science and Engagement program.
  • Manage and collaborate with the Research Office to deliver the full pre-award and post-award life cycle as well as coordinating organisation-wide expressions of interest for selected external grant programs

    • Pre-award activities include grant management system (GoodGrants) setup and full assessment cycle (assessor recruitment, relationships, coaching; assessment panel secretariat; outcomes and feedback)
    • Post-award activities include reviewing and approving reports and variations; post-award support to grantees (e.g. expenditure planning); and ensuring governance requirements with external funders are met

Location: Negotiable - any CSIRO site across Australia 
Salary: AU$117k - AU$138k plus up to 15.4% superannuation

To be considered you will need:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent relevant work experience in research management or governance.
  • Demonstrated ability to proactively identify, build and develop business relationships with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people, communities and government and/or research funding agencies.
  • Demonstrated experience in administering a funding and/or grants scheme and/or demonstrated experience in research management and governance in a similar organisation
  • Demonstrated experience in and/or knowledge of Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property and Human Research Ethics principles.
