We are seeking a dynamic and skilled Geospatial Analyst to join our CSIRO Land & Water business unit, and provide geospatial support to a broad range of environmental management projects.

As a Geospatial Analyst, you will join our “Living Landscapes Research Program” that focuses on providing the necessary science/technical expertise, tools & technologies to enable policy and investment to protect and manage natural systems, so that biodiversity flourishes, ecosystems function & adapt, and ecosystems services are maintained!

In this hands-on role, you will be responsible for the computer-based aspects of a wide range of research projects, developing geospatial data processing workflows and analysing large satellite datasets. You will bring your technical expertise to conduct necessary fieldwork and make significant contributions to geostatistical investigations. As a result, you will also be required to travel to various parts of the Northern Territory, including remote areas, to conduct fieldwork and research.

Your duties will include:

• Developing and maintaining geospatial data processing workflows to support environmental research projects.
• Undertaking fieldwork as part of a team in remote locations for the calibration and validation of satellite data products.
• Assisting with the planning, acquisition, and post-processing of static and kinematic LiDAR data.
• Utilising cloud-computing platforms and HPC systems for spatiotemporal analysis of large satellite datasets.
• Contributing to geostatistical analyses and machine learning model development.
• Contributing to the preparation of scientific journal paper and client reports, including the preparation for publication of quality maps and figures.
• Documenting and storing programming code and scripts in a transparent and reproduceable manner.

Location: Darwin NT (preferred); Townsville QLD (considered)
Salary: AU$87K – AU$98K pa + up to 15.4% superannuation

To be considered you will need:

• A tertiary degree, or an equivalent combination of relevant qualifications and industry experience, in ecology, remote sensing, geomatics, computer science, or a related field.
• Demonstrated knowledge and technical capability in the use of spatial and temporal data in multi-disciplinary projects that support decision making for environmental management.
• Demonstrated knowledge and technical capability in:
  • computer programming or scripting languages (e.g., Python, R) for automating workflows or the processing of large datasets.
  • a range of computing platforms (e.g., high-performance and cloud computing) and collaborative software development (e.g., Azure DevOps, BitBucket and GitHub).
• Proven experience and ability in the collection, post-processing, and analysis of terrestrial and airborne LiDAR data.
• Sound written and oral communication skills, including the production of scientific reports.
