The Pawsey Supercomputing Research Centre is a tier-1 high-performance computing facility accelerating scientific discoveries for Australia’s researchers. Located in Perth, Western Australia, Pawsey is currently serving scientists across the nation in domains such as radio astronomy, energy and resources, engineering, bioinformatics and health sciences.  Pawsey supports Australia's commitment to the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) and Australian pathfinder projects (ASKAP and MWA).

The Centre is managed through a long-standing and successful unincorporated joint venture of the CSIRO, Curtin University, Edith Cowan University, Murdoch University and The University of Western Australia, and supported by funding from the Western Australian and Federal governments.

The Visualisation Specialist works within the Scientific Services Team. This role works collaboratively with researchers to assist them in exploiting the vast opportunities enabled by the supercomputers operated in the Pawsey centre.  A technical aptitude, strong interpersonal skills and a desire to learn are essential to support the researchers and to grow with technology. The Visualisation Specialist will collaboratively work together with national and international radio astronomy research groups to co-design and implement software and hardware architectural solutions for the visualisation of large astronomy datasets. Other tasks include supporting large scale in-situ visualisation efforts covering a variety of scientific domains. 

Your duties will include:

• Liaise with the science stakeholders to develop software and hardware requirements.
• Develop a software solution that will enable a range of remote visualisation use-cases.
• Develop architectural solutions for visualising large astronomy datasets in Pawsey Supercomputing Research Centre.
• Contribute adapting software solutions to visualise large-scale data in other science domains.
• Under general direction, manage a facility or service supporting a large number of users, undertake a wide variety of tasks or tasks that have a high degree of technical difficulty, documenting procedures and training clients in systems and processes.
• Participate in the planning of projects and accept responsibility for carrying out major parts of the project, including data analysis, and typically make significant contributions to the interpretation and communication of results.

To be considered you will need:

Essential

Under CSIRO policy only those who meet all essential criteria can be appointed.

1. A relevant post graduate qualification in Computer Science, Software Engineering or Physics; or relevant work experience.
2. Substantial experience in computer graphics and scientific visualisation.
3. Demonstrated expertise in software development of distributed software systems and integration.
4. Excellent stakeholder engagement, high level communication skills and able to interact as a team player.

Desirable                                                                                                                                       

1. Knowledge of agile software development.
2. Knowledge or interest in astronomy.
