 Audiologist Hearing Assessment Program WA

  • Are you an Audiologist in Western Australia with a passion to make a difference?
  • Do you want to work in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities around Australia?
  • Do you want an opportunity to have a mix of specialist work through the Hearing Assessment Program and a connection to a supportive team dedicated to making a difference?

To ensure early detection and treatment of hearing loss for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, the Hearing Assessment Program (HAP) is being established to:

  • provide diagnostic hearing assessment and follow-up treatment;
  • contribute to strengthening management of ear health in primary care;
  • and  increase community awareness about the importance of ear and hearing health

The program will focus on rural and remote communities with a target of regional locations with significant hearing health needs in Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander communities. Hearing Australia will work in conjunction with communities, local health services, government clinics and other primary care clinics.

WHAT WILL BE PROVIDED?

From 2018-19 to 2021-22, the Australian Government will fund Hearing Australia to deliver the program with the following goals

Initial Ear Health Assessment

Where possible, primary health care professionals in health clinics will undertake initial ear health assessments to identify eligible children who require a diagnostic hearing assessment. If required, this initial ear health assessment can be undertaken by an Australian Hearing audiologist working with local primary health care professionals.

Diagnostic Hearing Assessment

Australian Hearing audiologists will provide diagnostic hearing assessments to eligible children who have been identified to be at risk of hearing loss. Australian Hearing will also fit hearing aids if needed and provide ongoing support.

Follow-up Treatment

Australian Hearing will report back to the primary health clinic if any further referral action is recommended. Funding available through other Australian Government programs will support timely access to follow-up treatment, e.g. ENTs, speech therapy and surgery.

Hearing Australia is keen to hear from Audiologists all over the country who have a true passion and commitment to making a difference, hours are flexible - full or part time. Training will be provided and you will be working with an organisation committed to making a real difference.  While your home base location can be in a metropolitan location the target locations will require travel and the flexibility to work in a range of communities.
