The Bureau of Meteorology is an agency in the Environment portfolio of the Australian Government. As Australia's national weather, climate and water agency, the Bureau's expertise and services assist Australians in preparing for, and responding to the harsh realities of their natural environment. Through regular forecasts, warnings, monitoring and advice spanning the Australian region and Antarctic territory, the Bureau provides one of the most fundamental and widely used services of government.

We are seeking three hydrologists to join our flood forecasting and warning teams based in Perth, Hobart and Melbourne. These teams are responsible for providing frontline flood forecasting and warning services to communities in Western Australia, Tasmania and Victoria. This is an exciting opportunity to use your personal qualities, behaviours, skills and experience in a customer-focused service delivery environment.

The successful applicants for the positions will be hydrologists, engineers or scientists with a background and experience in flood forecasting, flood hydrology, hydraulics or catchment modelling.

The ideal candidates will be excellent communicators, with the ability to communicate complex information clearly and demonstrated experience in liaising regularly with internal and external stakeholders. Suitable candidates will be highly motivated self-starters, and able to work within an interdisciplinary and diverse work environment under limited supervision.

The role may require interstate travel and shift-work during flood events, with overtime or shift penalties available in addition to the base salary.
