A leading role in the technical delivery of the Hydrological Projections Project, both working on the project, supervising other staff and interacting with climate scientists and external research projects.

The Bureau is currently seeking to employ a Senior Hydrologist in the Water Resources Section in Melbourne, Sydney or Brisbane. This is an exciting opportunity to help manage and deliver Australia-wide estimates of future climate impacts on the hydrological cycle and indicators for agriculture, urban water supply, flood, drought and other water related variables as a key member (senior hydrologist) of the Hydrological Projections Project.

 

To be successful you will have:

  • Excellent experience in climate change impact assessment on the hydrological cycle and the ability to work in a Linux and python based coding environment.
  • Experience with continental or global scale hydrological models, high performance computing, continuous integration, and bias-correction of hydrological model inputs from climate models is advantageous.
  • Experience in technical team management including communication and engagement

 

The ideal candidate will have worked in developing scientific methods for assessing the impact of climate change on the hydrological cycle, be comfortable working with complex code in a Linux environment is service delivery focused and possess superior collaboration skills including project management skills and the ability to build and maintain internal networks across the organisation.

 

The successful applicant will take a leading role in the technical delivery of the Hydrological Projections Project, both working on the project, supervising other staff and interacting with climate scientists and external research projects. Other tasks will include understanding customer needs, running ensembles of climate data, analysis of climate induced changes to hydrological indicators, calibration of hydrological models and creation of new automated analysis routines using scripting and coding languages in Python.

 

The position may be located in either Melbourne, Canberra, Sydney or Brisbane and may involve some short periods of interstate travel.
