The Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group is a key enabler for the Australian Defence Force through the acquisition and through-life support of military equipment and capability.

The 2016 White Paper outlined plans for long-term continuous builds of surface warships, commencing with construction inAustraliaof offshore patrol vessels from 2018 and future frigates from 2020. These plans will transformAustralia’s naval shipbuilding industry, generate significant economic growth, sustain Australian jobs over the coming decades and assure the long-term future of this key Australian defence industry.

Specialist Ships Acquisition Branch will steward the delivery of multi-billion dollar programs, including Offshore Patrol Vessel, Maritime Operational Support Capability and the Canberra Class Amphibious Assault Ship Landing Helicopter Dock Projects.

We are offering a unique and rewarding opportunity for an individual with relevant supplier management experience, domain knowledge and a proven record of achievement as a senior manager who is seeking to contribute to Australia’s Defence and security.

We are looking for a person who is:

  • capable of leading significant and challenging reforms;
  • capable of leading Australian Public Service, Australian Defence Force and industry personnel;
  • an exceptional communicator and manager with proven negotiation skills; and
  • possesses deep knowledge, skills and specialist expertise acquired through significant professional experience.

To be a strong contender, you will be a flexible and collaborative leader who is prepared to take calculated risks. You will be resilient, have proven high level communication skills and be personally accountable for the quality of advice and the delivery of results. To perform effectively in this position you will have extensive knowledge and experience in the area of business management, including contract management and procurement processes for complex systems.

Engagement may be negotiated on an ongoing or non-ongoing basis.  To be eligible, an applicant must be an Australian citizen. This is a security-designated position.  The successful applicant will be required to undergo security assessments to the highest level. The position is located inCanberra.
