Successful applicants will lead branches in areas under the responsibility of the Associate Secretary. The Associate Secretary has overarching responsibility for Estate and Infrastructure, People and the Chief Information Officer Groups, as well as oversight of Reform and Corporate Services and Defence Legal. These areas create and sustain the environment within which the people of Defence live and work.

If successful in your application you will oversee work in one of the following areas:

  • Audit;
  • Enterprise Governance; or
  • Security and Vetting Services.

We are looking for people who are:

  • capable of leading significant and challenging reforms;
  • self-aware and positive in considering and respecting a diversity of ideas and perspectives, and have the courage to challenge the status quo; and
  • an exceptional communicator and manager.

Successful applicants will be part of the organisation’s Senior Leadership Group. You will be a leader who respects a diversity of ideas and perspectives. You will have responsibilities and accountabilities for delivering the First Principles Review within the framework of ‘One Defence’.

To be a strong contender, you will be a flexible and collaborative leader who is prepared to take calculated risks. You will be resilient, have proven high level communication skills and be personally accountable for the quality of advice and the delivery of results.

Engagement may be negotiated on an ongoing or non-ongoing basis. To be eligible, an applicant must be, or intend to become, an Australian citizen. These are security-designated positions. Successful applicants may be required to undergo security assessments to the highest level.  These positions are located in Canberra.
