The Department of Defence is seeking an outstanding senior executive to fill the Senior Executive Service Band 2 position of General Manager Ships, based in Canberra.

The General Manager Ships is responsible for the acquisition of Australia’s naval surface ship programs including the Air Warfare Destroyer, the Future Frigate, the Offshore Patrol Vessel, the Pacific Patrol Boat Replacement, associated combat management systems, and related shipbuilding infrastructure. Supporting the Deputy Secretary Capability Acquisition and Sustainment, the position will lead and shape the future of Australian naval shipbuilding, and will oversee all aspects of naval surface ship acquisition activities.

We are looking for a person who:

• possesses expertise in naval and industrial engineering with strong program management;
• is capable of managing an integrated workforce of Australian Public Service, Australian Defence Force and industry personnel through significant organisational reform; and
• have proven negotiation skills.
