About the Crime Commission

The NSW Crime Commission (NSWCC) works collaboratively with the NSW Police Force (NSWPF) and other law enforcement agencies in investigating organised crime activity in such areas as: the high level illicit drug trade, terrorism, money laundering, identity and cyber-crime, serious firearms offences and organised crime.

The Commission is one of the few law enforcement and intelligence agencies in Australia that can hold hearings and supply evidence obtained in the course of its investigations to courts and various agencies.

About the role

The role of Commissioner is appointed to exercise the powers, functions, duties and responsibilities conferred on the Commissioner by the Crime Commission Act 2012. In addition, the Commissioner provides executive leadership across the NSW Crime Commission, ensuring it is able to achieve and deliver consistently high performance in relation to its objectives and functions.  The main focus areas of this role include:

• Exercising the Commissioner’s special powers both ethically and effectively
• Promoting an organisational culture of efficiency, effectiveness and corruption resistance in tackling serious and organised crime as well as criminal asset confiscation
• Ensure staff are equipped with the necessary knowledge, skills, policies and procedures to contribute effectively to meeting the Commission’s objectives
• Driving a range of continuous improvement initiatives focused on enhancing the Commission’s core capabilities and functions

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• Extensive experience as a senior legal officer within the criminal law field (preferably as a senior barrister or judicial officer) along with “Special Legal Qualifications” as defined in the Crime Commission Act 2012 (NSW)
• High level personal and professional integrity and probity with a commitment to tackling serious and organised crime and confiscating the proceeds of crime
• Detailed knowledge of the legislation governing the NSW Crime Commission, including the Crime Commission Act 2012 and Criminal Assets Recovery Act 1990 as well as other Acts related to criminal justice and investigation within NSW
• A strong understanding of contemporary practices and methodologies related to law enforcement and criminal investigations
• Strong leadership and strategic management skills, coupled with experience managing professional and non-professional employees across multi-disciplinary teams
• An advanced ability to drive a continuous improvement agenda, define high level objectives and translate these into practical implementation strategies.
• A strong ability to manage relationships with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders, including other law enforcement agencies within NSW and across Australia
