The Department of Defence’s primary role is to defend Australia and its national interests. In delivering Defence capability to the Australian Government, Defence seeking to fill a number of vacancies in the Strategic Policy and Intelligence Group and to establish a merit list of highly suitable candidates to fill similar vacancies that may occur within the next twelve months.

Positions for which this merit list may be used include roles that will drive the Department’s strategic, capability and international policy agenda, as well as helping advance the Government’s defence industry policy objectives.

To be successful in joining the Department’s Senior Leadership Group you will need to be someone who can play a key role in promoting and influencing the work of the organisation and its people. The core competencies require someone who has a strong track record in practicing inclusive leadership, who respects diversity of both people and ideas and who leads by example. You must demonstrate that you have judgment of the highest order and an ability to effectively challenge the status quo when you consider this is required. When applying for these roles you must demonstrate a genuine commitment to building an organisation that values and rewards strong performance and exemplary corporate behaviour. Highly competitive candidates will need to be self-aware and be someone who is able to demonstrate leadership traits that align with the One Defence Leadership Behaviours and the organisation’s cultural intent.

The remuneration package includes superannuation, an Executive Vehicle allowance and, where applicable, relocation expenses. The salary component for this position may be negotiated with the successful candidate, within the Band 1 salary range.

Engagement may be negotiated on an ongoing basis or for a specified term. To be eligible for engagement to identified vacancies, an applicant must be a permanent Australian citizen. This is a security-designated position. The successful applicant will be required to undergo security assessments to the appropriate level.
