About Us:

Defence Science and Technology is the Australian government’s lead agency responsible for applying science and technology to safeguard Australia and its national interests. Maritime Division provides technologies and scientific and technical expertise to deliver the capability edge to the war fighter, and enhance the operational performance and survivability of Defence platforms in the maritime domain. Sonar Technology & Systems leads research into developing and applying sovereign undersea acoustic sensing, with processing and analysis expertise provided to the current and future ADF with an acoustic undersea warfare capability edge.

About the role:

As the Research Leader you will lead a team of scientists and engineers in the Sonar Technology & Systems Major Science and Technology Capability. You will inspire three capability teams: Submarine Acoustic Warfare Systems – located in Stirling, WA, Surface Combatant and Off-Board Sensors – located in Edinburgh SA and Multi-Sensor Anti-Submarine Warfare, also located in Edinburgh SA.

You will influence your team to push the frontiers of science and technology through collaboration to create new scientific insights and opportunities for system breakthroughs. You will proactively manage the ‘raise, train and sustain components of Sonar Technology & Systems as well as actively develop staff and reviewing their publications.

The Research Leader Sonar Technology & Systems also has oversight for local operations such as work health safety, facilities and security.
