Your Role

The work of the Electrical sub-function in Defence: engage with stakeholders, investigate Electrical engineering concepts, deliver and manage Electrical engineering specifications and resources in support of the Defence materiel capability lifecycle. Investigate, analyse and report on Electrical engineering defects and requirements, develop and implement recommendations and advice to address issues.

 Within the Electrical Engineering sub-function an EL1 Engineer Professional is accountable under broad direction to perform and achieve very complex Electrical engineering work within an integrated workforce. They will require an in-depth knowledge of and compliance with legislative frameworks, government decision-making and Defence’s mission and policy requirements.

 An EL1 Electrical Engineer Professional will exercise a considerable degree of independence and perform a subject matter expert role. They will exercise sound decision making and judgement to provide expert policy advice. They will have in-depth knowledge of the Electrical engineering discipline and are responsible for the development, implementation, compliance and review of policies and procedures relevant to their work within that discipline. They will engage in very complex problem solving and issues management and may coordinate and perform detailed or sensitive projects that impact on strategic, political or operational outcomes for Defence.

An EL1 Electrical Engineer Professional may be a team coach or lead a project or administrative team and will be accountable for the outcomes of the teams work and the appropriate use of resources to produce and achieve outcomes. They are expected to be capable of building team capability through coaching and feedback and reviewing and developing the quality of work undertaken by others within a work unit. They may exercise the associated people and financial responsibilities to achieve work unit outcomes.

 An EL1 Electrical Engineer Professional will be responsible for actively managing key stakeholder relationships and will be required to identify relevant stakeholders’ expectations and concerns to develop and communicate methodologies and practices to achieve outcomes. They will be accountable to contribute towards ongoing self-improvement and professional development of their work area.

This is a desk based position involving computer use and working with others towards shared goals in a collaborative team environment.

The successful candidate will be required to obtain a Negative Vetting 1 clearance upon commencing with Defence.

Our Team

The Destroyer System Program Office (DDGSPO) has been established to accept and sustain the Air Warfare Destroyers (AWD). The DDGSPO is an integrated workforce consisting of ADF, APS and industry personnel based at Garden Island in Sydney. Given the integrated nature of the workforce, positive relationships, collaborative behaviors, and an agile and flexible approach will be fundamental to the success of the DDGSPO. The DDGSPO is a dynamic and challenging work environment supporting the Royal Australian Navy's newest and most capable Hobart Class warships.
