$106,074 - $119,651 (plus super)
Fishermans Bend - VIC

The Role
As an Active Acoustic Signature Specialist, you will develop capability and apply modelling tools in the prediction and control of the underwater active acoustic signature of maritime vessels. You will contribute to and coordinate parts of active acoustic signature science and technology, in areas such as target echo strength modelling and the performance of acoustic cladding materials.

While a key part of the role is computer modelling, you will support experimental programs and make use of the resulting data. This will include working with other team members in the development and testing of acoustic materials. You will initiate, develop and maintain collaborations with Australian universities, industry and international partners in topics relevant to target echo strength and development of acoustic materials.

About our Team
The successful applicant will work in the Acoustic Signature Control group, one of the groups in the Maritime Division of DSTG. We work across a number of science areas relevant to the underwater acoustic signatures of maritime vessels. We make use of a variety of computer-based tools for modelling and analysis, and have experimental facilities such as a comprehensive range of sound and vibration measuring equipment, a large water tank and an anechoic chamber. Together with our Defence, university, industry and international partners, we help ensure the operational effectiveness of current and future submarines and surface ships for Navy.

Our Ideal Candidate
We are looking for a person with demonstrated acoustics knowledge and science research experience who can apply this to target echo strength modelling and assessment of acoustic materials. The right person will have the ability to undertake and coordinate research activities, and work effectively with teams. You will be highly motivated and able to work under limited guidance.

You will need to be able to collaborate effectively with our academic, industry, Defence and international partners. You will have strong written and verbal communication skills that will facilitate good collaboration and enable you to present the outcomes of your work to our Defence partners at different levels of technical depth as appropriate.
