The Role

The Department of Defence is seeking an experienced Physiotherapist to work in a dynamic role managing a team of Physiotherapists across Southern NSW, committed to driving best outcomes for members of the Australian Defence Force (ADF).

Responsible for the physiotherapy service broadly across Southern NSW Defence garrison health facilities, the EL1 Physiotherapist Manager is accountable for providing clinical treatment, leading a team, managing allocated resources, setting work area priorities, managing workflows, developing strategies and procedures, and evaluating business outcomes.

You will plan, lead and manage evidence-based assessments and treatment of complex to very complex intensive, multi-factorial physical conditions within a bio-psychosocial framework to achieve defined treatment goals. You will demonstrate advanced knowledge, experience and skills in physiotherapy practices and Defence health policies to provide advice to stakeholders and mentor less experienced employees. You will motivate and mentor these teams, align complementary skills and allocate resources in a manner that delivers results across a number of locations within Southern NSW.

NB: The current position is ongoing however we will be creating a merit pool to fill similar ongoing and non-ongoing positions that become available within the next 12 months.

Due to the Government’s Christmas stand down period, interviews will potentially not be conducted until the New Year.

About our Team
Joint Health Unit Southern NSW is responsible for garrison health services located in the ACT, Bungendore, Kapooka and Wagga. The EL1 Physiotherapist Manager is responsible for the provision of high quality physiotherapy services across Southern NSW. This position reports to the regions Commanding Officer (CO) and acts as Technical Advisor to the region. The position will supervise and support the physiotherapist workforce comprising contractors, APS and ADF across the region, ensuring an effective service delivery to all key stakeholders. Clinical work will also be expected.

As a regional position, travel to Defence bases within SNSW is required. A Defence vehicle will be provided for all travel.

Our Ideal Candidate
The successful applicant will demonstrate extensive physiotherapy experience, critical thinking skills, be proficient at analyzing workflows and business processes, provide recommendations for improvements to enhance efficiency and outcomes, and manage the implementation of agreed actions.

They will have experience in managing, developing and mentoring staff through performance appraisal and change, providing expert clinical mentoring and training to assist in the development of staff. They will work within a regional team whilst applying a structured and nationally consistent service, as directed by policy and their technical chain.

Although based at the ACT Health Centre Duntroon, the successful candidate will be required to travel between Defence establishments within Southern NSW and will be enthusiastic to foster and maintain strong and effective professional relationships between various stakeholders within the Department of Defence and contracted external agencies.
