The Role
We are seeking a highly experienced environmental management professional to lead a team of environmental managers located across New South Wales. Our Environment and Sustainability Team plays a critical role in enabling Defence capability by ensuring activities across our Estate are compliant with legislative requirements as well as the Defence Environmental Policy and Environmental Strategic Plan.
 
 The Defence Estate encompasses a diverse range of environmental management challenges including endangered species, overabundant native species, contaminated sites, European and Indigenous heritage, pollution prevention and sustainable land management. The successful candidate will be required to represent the interests of Defence in consultations and negotiations with stakeholders and will play an integral part in ensuring that Defence is a leader in sustainable environmental management to support the ADF’s capability to defend Australia and its national interests.
 
About our Team
The position sits within East West Zone of Service Delivery Division and will lead a geographically dispersed team of environmental professionals in NSW, and ACT/WA supporting Defence capability through the provision of contemporary land management practices and advice. You will provide strong leadership and guidance for your team in managing complex environmental, heritage and sustainability matters to ensure that we maintain and deliver a fit for purpose Estate in line with Defence requirements.

This Executive Position will suit you if you:

  • Hold the relevant tertiary environmental qualifications or relevant experience.
  • Have extensive relevant environmental and team management experience.
  • Have the ability to develop effective relationships with colleagues, customers and service delivery partners in a complex organisation.
  • Have strong leadership skills
  • Are passionate and pragmatic about environmental management.
  • Are able to work with complex legislative and policy frameworks and have the ability to interpret and apply sound judgement to meet these requirements
  • Thrive in a fast paced environment where you’re given latitude to manage multiple responsibilities supported by a geographically dispersed team.
  • Have experience with stakeholder management and service delivery.

The successful candidate can commence with a Baseline Security clearance but must upgrade to Negative Vetting 1 during probation.
