The Australasian Fire and Emergency Service Authorities Council (AFAC) is the national council for fire, land management and emergency service authorities in Australia and New Zealand, representing 31 member organisations, comprising permanent and part-time personnel and volunteers, totaling 295,000 firefighters and emergency workers.  AFAC has a number of business units that facilitate a broad range of activities on behalf of its members.

About Australian Fire Danger Rating System program

The Australian Fire Danger Rating System (AFDRS) is a program of national significance to build a better way to forecast and communicate fire danger for members of the public and improve community safety.  Substantial change is required in areas such as policy, training, infrastructure and community education in all jurisdictions nationally.  The Change Management project will support the change to the new AFDRS nationally.   AFAC manage the Change Management project on behalf of the national AFDRS Board.

The Role

This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled Change Manager.  The role reports to the AFDRS Program Director and is primarily responsible for:

  • Establishment and maintenance of effective engagement with all jurisdictional change leaders and key stakeholders to implement the new AFDRS
  • Facilitation of the change process nationally in accordance with the Change Management Plan

Duties

  • Lead the Change Management Project Team and national coordination group to implement the change management project
  • Prepare briefing notes, board papers and other documents
  • Prepare high level updates and project summaries for AFDRS Board, AFAC CEO, jurisdictional change leaders and stakeholders
  • Develop and implement the change management communications strategy and plan
  • Facilitate development of communication tools and products for stakeholders

About you and how to apply

We are looking for someone with the ability to work at a national level to effect change. Tertiary qualified, you will be highly organised, have excellent written communication skills, be flexible and adaptable with a high attention to detail and capacity to meet deadlines in order to deliver quality outcomes.  Working in a small team, the incumbent must be multi-skilled, proactive and creative and can work autonomously using significant initiative across a range of responsibilities.
