Optus Business has secured an extension on its contract with the Australian Department of Agriculture and Water Resources.

The new deal will see $13.6 million spent over the next three years on digital transformation.

It means Optus will deliver mobile, data, and voice services across the department’s 5,500 mobile and tablet devices, but will add managed telephone, video conferencing, Skype for Business, and a contact centre solution for the department's 150 sites to its services.

Optus says its new services are “aimed at increasing collaboration among staff working remotely across Australia and overseas”.

“We're supporting the department's mission to ensure Australia's agriculture, fisheries, food, and forestry industries embrace new digital technologies to improve competitiveness and sustainability,” Optus Business MD John Paitaridis said.

Department CIO Peter McKeon said the agency wants to “build greater capability across the department”.

“By updating our critical technology platforms and investing in managed services, we're well positioned to achieve our objectives now and into the future,” he said.

Optus has scored some major Federal Government deals lately, including a cloud hosting agreement with Canberra Data Centres (CDC), as well as cybersecurity prevention, detection, and monitoring capabilities, and a satellite communications partnership with the Department of Defence.
