If you like the thought of servicing and maintaining vehicles more exciting than a standard car or truck, this could be the role for you. From motorbikes and four-wheel drives, to trucks and trailers, to Abrams Tanks and ASLAVs, there will be no lack of variety in this role.
Your role
As a Vehicle Mechanic, you’ll be responsible for keeping the Army on the move, inspecting, servicing, repairing and maintaining a wide variety of military vehicles. Wherever the Army goes, you go.
You’ll be part of a support team and provided with world-class training on an ongoing basis to enable you to master a huge variety of equipment. On top of this, you’ll have opportunity to take part in specialist courses that will grow your knowledge of the Abrams Tank, ASLAVs, Armoured Personnel Carriers and Earthmoving equipment.
Following your training, not only will you have an Army trade proficiency, but you’ll also gain excellent skills for your long-term employment prospects. Your trade training is fully accredited with exportability of that trade qualification into the civilian community, providing a broader scope for your future employment.
This is your opportunity to upgrade your career to more exciting and rewarding areas. Alternatively, if you’re interested in joining the Army but feel this role isn’t quite suitable, consider becoming a Recovery Mechanic responsible for salvaging, recovering and towing the Army's vehicles and equipment.
Salary:
In the Army, you'll get paid a good salary from day one regardless of your age, experience or qualifications. Upon commencing training, your starting salary will be approximately $52,815 per annum plus 16.4% superannuation and your pay will increase as you progress through training. This is approximately 40% higher than the average first year apprentice salary.
On completion of your initial military training and initial employment training, you could earn $75,451 per annum plus generous super and can enjoy the benefits of a stable and rewarding career.
Location:
Following your initial military training, you could be posted to one of the many Army bases and units across Australia. The majority of these positions are located in Brisbane, Townsville and Darwin. It’s not possible to guarantee a specific posting location for the duration of your service, therefore you must be willing to relocate.
