The Role
Python developers are accountable for the design, delivery and maintenance of a range of microservices, web-applications and data processing workflows to support capability development and operations.

OE Branch are looking for individuals who:

  • Can provide technical leadership as members of an integrated, agile team
  • Encourage and participate in mentoring, guiding and developing existing and new staff
  • Provide and enable innovative thinking
  • Will lead the design, delivery and maintenance of python-backed applications, micro-services and data processing pipelines
  • Are always learning new technologies, languages and development methodologies
  • Drive concepts and build them into workable and appropriate solutions for mission outcomes
  • Demonstrate dynamic analytical thinking, resilience, and adaptability, and
  • Look for innovative ways to streamline and improve processes and procedures.

About our Team
The Operational Engineering (OE) Branch comprises high-performing, dynamic, multidisciplinary teams committed to enabling ASD’s missions in unique and exciting ways.

Our people are highly skilled and work at the forefront of innovation to support mission requirements through their specialist skills in software, firmware and/or electronic development.

Our Ideal Candidate
The occupants of these positions play a pivotal role in the design, development and delivery of critical capabilities used by ASD’s workforce, ensuring they are fit-for-purpose to meet sensitive and time-critical mission requirements.

Interested candidates should have contemporary qualifications and/or demonstrated skills and experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Python programming
  • Contemporary web development frameworks such as React
  • Microservice architectures and API integration
  • Containerised software development
  • Orchestration services including Ansible, Puppet, Satelitte and/or Terraform
  • CI/CD tooling and automation including Artifactory, GitLab and Jenkins
  • Messaging and dataflow services such as RabbitMQ, Kafka and/or NiFi
  • Strong understanding of the role and function of each layer of the OSI model
  • Experience developing and testing critical software, and integrating with complex systems.
