The Role
The Army Aviation Command (AVNCOMD) Directorate of Continuing Airworthiness-Army (DCA-A) is the Defence Aviation Safety Authority (DASA) approved Continuing Airworthiness Management Organisation (CAMO) for the Army Aviation Military Air Operator (MAO) and is responsible for the ongoing management of the continuing airworthiness and sustainment of the Army Aviation fleet.
Under the Defence Aviation Safety Regulations (DASRs) Part M – Continuing Airworthiness, the CAMO is required to have a Quality Manager (QM) accepted by the DASA as meeting the personnel requirements of DASR AMC M.A.706(f). The QM is accountable to the 2 Star MAO - Accountable Manager (AM) for regulatory compliance of the CAMO and supporting organisations both military and contracted.
The Continuing Airworthiness Engineer and Quality Manager will fulfil this regulatory role by managing a small dispersed team delivering the function, as well as discharging the responsibilities of the Continuing Airworthiness Manager (CAM) in their absence, leading the continual improvement of the organisation and the integration of future capabilities.
About our Team
The Continuing Airworthiness Engineer and Quality Manager is accountable to the Major General (two star general) MAO-AM for regulatory compliance of the CAMO and supporting organisations, both military and contracted, to the Defence Aviation Safety Regulations (DASRs) Part M. They manage a team that provides oversight of the Continuing Airworthiness Management functions across the Army MAO enterprise, which includes military and contracted support arrangements; across multiple aircraft types and Uncrewed Air Systems (UAS).
The Continuing Airworthiness Engineer and Quality Manager exercises the authority of the MAO-AM when addressing non-compliance/conformance with regulations or requirements for Continuing Airworthiness Management as delivered by military and/or contracted support organisations. They provide advice to the MAO-AM, make decisions on their behalf, and manage risks that relate to managing conformance to Continuing Airworthiness and supporting safe flight operations.
Our Ideal Candidate
The Continuing Airworthiness Engineer and Quality Manager will have the experience to critically judge indicators of non-compliance/conformance to regulations, and assess the presence, suitability, operability and effectiveness of processes, products and organisations in contribution to highly effective integrated enterprise risk management. They will independently provide advice to the MAO-AM on identified issues when they have a significant impact to Airworthiness and propose action strategies to manage enterprise risks to safety and capability. They will exercise independent decision making in determining the actions to be taken, and issue findings for corrective actions for to supporting organisations.
The Continuing Airworthiness Engineer and Quality Manager will engage with a range of senior stakeholders across the Army Aviation enterprise, ranging from senior military officers and corporate executives to quality management practitioners and supporting staff. As a highly credible and influential technical leader, they will set the contemporary system benchmark and drive performance through collaborative, open and effective relationships with stakeholder organisations and their key appointments; delivering challenging information and managing the expectations of individuals within the organisation where their performance requires improvement.Application Closing Date: Sunday 21 May 2023
