The Role
The Technical Officers work as members of a multi-disciplinary engineering team performing technical and engineering work as part of Naval Construction Branch. You will be providing advice on the introduction of design changes, maintenance issues and conducting technical investigations. 

The key responsibilities for these roles include:

  • Shipyard surveillance, inspection, assessment and reporting on discipline specific equipment, sub system, system and whole of ship installation progress and quality;
  • Providing assurance services on systems requirements and legislated standards related to relevant discipline;
  • Witnessing of discipline related testing, set to work and activation activities;
  • Providing specialist technical advice during ship production and acceptance, related to product quality assurance;
  • Undertaking the technical assessment of discipline relevant aspects the design changes and deviations;
  • Assisting in the development and review of specifications, plans, procedures and design documents; and
  • Undertake review of quality assurance, technical and test reports.
    We are seeking 1 x APS 6 Hull & Structure Technical Officer, 1 x EL 1 Hull & Structure and 1 x EL 1 Welding and Coatings Technical Specialist.

If applicable, a merit-list will be created to fill similar vacancies in the next 18 months. 

About our Team
The Naval Construction Branch (NCB) is accountable for the assurance of ship construction, set-to-work and transit of vessels constructed at the Osborne Naval Shipyard and Henderson precinct. We are headquartered in Osborne, SA and have a detachment in Henderson, WA.

NCB is furthering Continuous Naval Shipbuilding and growing sovereign capability by overseeing the construction to ensure quality and standards are met, storing lessons learnt and developing standard shipbuilding procedures for construction. NCB will oversee the construction of many different Navy vessels including Offshore Patrol Vessels, Hunter Class Frigates, Young Endeavour, Mine Hunter Vessels, Evolved Cape Class and Pacific Patrol Boats.

Working at NCB will enable you to be at the grassroots of Continuous Naval Shipbuilding, where you are part of a working shipyard, being able to see and contribute to the vessels delivered and used in Service by Navy. NCB currently has highly skilled and diverse shipbuilding experience which will be shared to grow your hands on construction knowledge.

You will work alongside Navy Personnel, Internal project management offices and Prime Contractors. The opportunity for technical staff to undertaken industry placement is also available.
