ASIO to expand secretive ranks
The Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO) is snooping around for new recruits.
The spy agency has launched a recruiting drive and opened its employment register.
It is unclear where successful applicants would work, given that mysterious exploding windows and alleged Chinese thefts are stopping ASIO from moving in to its $700 million HQ in Canberra.
Candidates can register their interest through an online recruitment system, ASIO says.
Some of the roles include vacancies for intelligence officers, who are tasked with collecting, analysing and disseminating information on matters of national security.
The spy agency says it takes applicants’ security seriously, and that people wanting to work there should not discuss their application with anyone else.
ASIO will only make contact with candidates if their registration is progressing.
ASIO says that to be eligible for employment candidates must; be Australian citizens; undergo a selection process consistent with ongoing employment merit principles; be willing and able to relocate to Canberra if required; and be willing to be assessed for suitability to hold security clearances.
The process involves extensive background checking.
