Federal Government to push for media inquiry
The Federal Government is set to conduct a wide-ranging inquiry into media practices and ownership throughout Australia after criticism of News Limited continues to escalate.
The Greens, led by Deputy Leader Christine Milne, are continuing their push for an investigation into the concentration of media ownership in Australia, with the Murdoch owned News Limited accounting for over 70 per cent of all newspaper ownership in the country.
A senior government source told the ABC that the inquiry will not be a “get News Limited” probe, but would concentrate on strengthening media watchdogs such as the Press Council and the Australian Communications and Media Authority.
