Funds to fight violence in the home
The Federal Government has announced a multi-million dollar funding boost for training to protect victims of domestic violence.
Case workers have welcomed the announcement of an extra $7.6 million for a national training program called DV-Alert.
The money will go to Lifeline to allow them to expand their training programs for healthcare workers to identify and assist domestic violence victims.
Domestic violence worker Andrea Maver says everyone around the victim of domestic violence suffers as well: "It breaks children, it breaks families, it destroys their happiness, it destroys their future, it impedes their future, it impedes a happy life," she said.
Currently, DV-Alert has been funded by the Department of Families, Housing, Community Service and Indigenous Affairs. The program carries the slogan “Recognise. Respond. Refer.”
