The government body in charge of protecting Medicare and the PBS has a new director.

Mark Butler, Minister for Health and Aged Care, has announced the appointment of Associate Professor Antonio Di Dio as the new Director of the Professional Services Review (PSR).

The PSR serves as Australia's official body responsible for safeguarding against inappropriate practices within the Medicare and Pharmaceutical Benefits schemes.

It plays a critical role in maintaining the ethical standards and financial integrity of Australia's public health system.

Associate Professor Di Dio brings over 30 years of experience as a general practitioner to the new role.

His experience includes serving as an educator at the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners and the Australian Medical Council.

Additionally, he has previously led the PSR as acting director from 2022 to early 2024.

“Associate Professor Di Dio is a trusted member of the medical community and will bring his expertise to an essential role in our healthcare system, ready to separate the bad apples from the bunch,” Butler said.
